CEBU CITY — Devotees of the Señior Sto. Niño marked the opening of the 31st year of the Sinulog festivities by joining the penitential procession of the Child Jesus.

The devotees assembled in Fuente Osmeña Circle as early as 3 a.m. Thursday for the annual ‘Walk with Jesus’ dawn procession that started at 4:30 a.m. from Fuente Osmeña Boulevard to the Basilica del Sto. Niño.

More than a thousand of devotees brought with them not just rosaries and lighted candles but different icons and images of the Sto. Nino.

There were some devotees who brought icons of the Niño dressed as farmer, tailor, and fisherman, among others. Other Sto. Niños were clad in different colorful robes.

At 5:30 a.m., Rev. Fr. Rodolfo Bugna officiated the mass at the Basilica.

The new Hermano and Hermana mayores of 2011 were also installed during the mass.
